Biography

What does the lion say to his friends before they go out hunting for food ?
'Let us prey.'

Hello , and welcome to my personal blog. My name is Richard Parker , your probably wondering how i got this name. Originally, a hunter named Richard Parker baptized me with the name "Thirsty" (creative, right?). But in a paperwork mix-up, i end up with the name Richard Parker and the hunter with the name Thirsty. I grow up in the Pondicherry zoo raised by a Indian boy named Piscine Patel and his father who owned the place. I loved it their , i had everything i wanted food, friends , sleep .. you name it! Eventually Pi's family decides to sell their zoo over a land dispute with the government, and sell the animals to a zoo in Canada before immigrating there themselves. Until then a horrible accident occurs , this ship with all the animals and Pi's family sinks. In my journal entry's down below you will find out how me and Piscine Patel survive 227 days in the Pacific Ocean. Enjoy!

Did you know ..

Here is just a bit of facts that i bet you did not know about me :)

You can hear a tiger roar over a mile away!

A tiger can eat 100 pounds of meat a night! Compare that to 400 hamburgers! They need a lot of food because they go days between meals.

Tigers have been called man eaters, yet they eat frogs, monkeys, porcupines  fowl, and tortoises, especially  when a good deer is hard to find.

Tigers have round pupils and yellow irises (except for the blue eyes of white tigers). Due to a retinal adaptation that reflects light back to the retina, the night vision of tigers is six times better than that of humans.

The size of a tiger's territory depends on the amount of food available, and usually ranges from about 10 to 30 square miles (26-78 sq. km). Siberian tigers sometimes have really big territories (as large as 120 square miles).

Although tigers usually live alone, tiger territories can overlap. A male tiger's territory usually overlaps those of several female tigers.

Tigers can see in the dark six times better than humans can. They can also see in color.

The heaviest tiger recorded in the Guinness Book of World Records is a 1,025-pound male Siberian tiger.

Journal Entry One

It’s only been one day after the ship has sank I worked myself out an uneasy living arrangement. I can tell the little boy Pi slowly try’s to “train” me until he's more less the master of the lifeboat. Me and Pi start to get along, he does not bother me I don’t bother him. The only ones that are left on this boat are Pi and a menagerie of animals: a zebra, a hyena, and an orangutan. The animals and Pi, are packed into a 26-foot-long lifeboat, there is definitely going to be some bloodshed. I can tell the boy, the animals and even myself are starting to get hungry.  Before you know it the vicious and stupid hyena slowly eats alive the zebra, as if the thing was not in pain already. The hyena kills the zebra and the orangutan. I start to take matters into my own hands; I did a smart but quick kill, one that Pi did not even notice. I have killed the hyena.

Journal Entry Two

As of right now I’m not even sure of what day it is , but me and  Pi’s relationship grow better each day as is his survival skills. Pi catches fish and he has a few tools from the lifeboat's locker. He's just lost his entire family. Pi is alone except for me a “man-eating tiger”. He undergoes through cleverness, prayer, and willpower.

Journal Entry Three

As I was sitting resting and trying to keep myself awake under the tarpaulin I could hear something, small waves being made and I could sense Pi being more aware of his surroundings. Something strange happened. He meets a castaway, but this was no ordinary event... this castaway tried to eat Pi Patel. I looked up but at that moment I could not see very well, not much at all. The heat, starvation and dehydration got the best of me and Pi we were both blind. I can hear both of the boys talking, but it starts to get heated up and I can sense the greed in their voices. I can’t blame Pi, he was trying to provide not only for himself but for me. The man he was talking to had said he does not have any food left or supplies.  He told Pi that he wants to give him a boot to eat; he thought that idea was crazy. He tried telling the castaway that I was on the boat but he didn’t believe it. The rush in me kept getting faster and faster, me and Pi HAD to eat! We were going to die. I was sick of hearing the arguments going back and forth, Pi didn’t realize it but that man was a liar... He had supplies and resources! But did not want us to have it. The castaway started walking and I jumped out of the tarpaulin and ate him. I never felt so violent before, in the zoo everything was given to us, we never once had to kill or do such things in order to survive. Pi was astonished that I did such a thing; I couldn’t help myself but eats, eat and eat this man’s skin and bones.

Journal Entry Four

I and my good friend Pi’s journey ends as we land in Mexico. I bounded off into the jungle with as much as a goodbye. I know the boy thought about killing me, but instead he trained me and provided for me that whole time we were stranded on the pacific. I would not have done it, if it were not for Pi. I remember me in the Pondicherry zoo and the care that he and his family put out towards me. I’ll never forget it, and I’ll never forget that year me and Pi Patel spent in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. But most importantly I will never forget how life can end in a second, Cherish those around you and don’t take what you have for granted.

Going to miss my good friend Pi Patel
